
Success Story: Restoration of the Floor in an Old Mill
In the rehabilitation of a historic mill, our objective was to restore and protect the flooring, which had been severely deteriorated by the passage of time and previous activity. A technical solution was sought that could reinforce the substrate, improve mechanical resistance, and provide a durable finish for a space that combines heritage value with contemporary use.
Challenge
The existing flooring presented:
- Eroded areas and loss of material.
- Low surface cohesion.
- The need for a resistant system suitable for functional use while remaining respectful of the building’s structure.
Intervention Carried Out
The restoration process was carried out in several phases:
- Repair of the flooring using technical mortars to correct irregularities and restore substrate stability.
- Diamond grinding of the floor, ensuring pore opening, deep cleaning, and improved adhesion.
- Application of I25 Water-Based Epoxy Primer, which acted as:
- A substrate consolidator.
- A key bonding bridge for the final epoxy system.
- Final finish with S05 Two-Component Epoxy Paint, a high-hardness coating with excellent chemical resistance, available in various colors and specially designed for concrete floors.
Results
- Completely renewed and consolidated flooring.
- Significant improvement in resistance to wear and chemical products.
- Continuous, uniform surface suitable for long-term use.
- Enhanced value of the space while preserving the essence of the historic mill.
